Our Story

In 1973, Charles McEwuen, while serving with the 101st Airborne Division, taught himself to make leather goods with what he had available at the post craft store. When he returned to Morgantown, WV, in 1976, Charlie took this craft and turned it into a business. Opening in a six-foot storefront that was no more than a walled-off alleyway on Walnut Street, Tanner’s Alley Leather Design Studio was born. For the 48 years since then, Charlie has been designing, creating, and repairing leather goods for the Morgantown Community.

As the quality of his products became recognized across the community and nation, Charlie had the privilege of finding and employing other like-minded team members to help fulfill the growing business's needs.

Today, as our story continues, we still design and produce all items in our local studio because we believe that premium style and quality are best created by hand. Find the full selection of our leather goods in-store or follow us on social media.
